Announcing Amazon CloudWatch Metric Streams - a new feature that enables customers to create a continuous, near real-time stream of metrics to a destination of their choice.

You can use Metric Streams to send metrics to your data lake on Amazon Web Services services, such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3). This enables you to continuously ingest monitoring data, and combine billing and performance data with the latest CloudWatch metric data to create rich datasets. You can then use tools such as Amazon Athena to get insight into cost optimization, resource performance and resource utilization. Alternatively, you can use Metric Streams to send metrics to Amazon Web Services Partner solutions. Metric Streams are fully-managed, scalable, and easy to set up, reducing overhead.

To get started, click on the Streams link under Metrics in the left navigation panel of the CloudWatch console. You can set up a stream of metrics to be delivered to Amazon S3 with a few clicks. Alternatively, you can use the CloudWatch API, SDK, CLI, or Amazon CloudFormation to provision and configure Metric Streams. Metric Streams supports OpenTelemetry and JSON output formats.

Amazon CloudWatch Metric Streams are now available in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.
