Amazon Resource Explorer Features
General
Open allSearch for resources, such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances, Amazon Kinesis data streams, or Amazon DynamoDB tables, by using resource metadata such as application names, tags, and resource IDs.
With Amazon Resource Explorer, you can search for resources across Amazon Web Services Regions with a single search. To do so, you must search a view that was configured in the Region that is your aggregator index.
With Amazon Resource Explorer, you can create multi-account views and search across all accounts in your Amazon Organization with a single search. To do so you must configure Resource Explorer in every account in your organization using Amazon CloudFormation or Amazon Systems Manager Quick Setup.
To control who can search for resources, you can grant access to your Amazon Resource Explorer views with Amazon Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles and IAM users. Learn more about granting access to resources with IAM.
You can set up Amazon Resource Explorer to search Amazon Web Services Regions in two ways:
With a default configuration. Amazon Resource Explorer creates a local index in every supported Amazon Web Services Region. The service promotes the Region that you specify to be the aggregator index to receive data from the local indexes in all other Regions. It also creates a default view in the aggregator index Region. Where you can manually configure various options. You can choose the Amazon Web Services Regions in which to turn on Amazon Resource Explorer. You can also configure:
- (Optional) Region with an aggregator index
- Default views
To set up Resource Explorer in multiple accounts at once, you should use Amazon Systems Manager to set up a Resource Explorer configuration across your Amazon Organization. You can find more information on Amazon System Manager Quick Setup in our Getting Started guide.
