Simplified permissions for Amazon S3 Tables and Iceberg materialized views is now supported in China Regions

Posted on: Jun 8, 2026

Amazon Glue Data Catalog now supports Amazon IAM-based authorization for Amazon S3 Tables and Apache Iceberg materialized views. With IAM-based authorization, you can define all necessary permissions across storage, catalog, and query engines in a single IAM policy.

This capability simplifies the integration of S3 Tables or materialized views with Amazon Athena, Amazon EMR, Amazon Redshift, and Amazon Glue. You can also opt in to Amazon Lake Formation at any time to manage fine-grained access controls using the Amazon Web Services Management Console, CLI, and SDKs.

This feature is now available in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet, and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD. To learn more, visit the Amazon Glue Data Catalog documentation and S3 Tables documentation.
