Amazon Lambda Announces Self-Managed Code Storage
Amazon Lambda now supports self-managed Amazon S3 buckets for code storage. Lambda can now reference your source code from your own S3 buckets instead of taking a copy when you create functions and layers. With self-managed code storage, you can store as much function and layer code as your S3 bucket can hold, you can maintain a single source of truth for your source code in your own S3 buckets, and you can achieve faster time to first invoke since Lambda references your code directly without creating intermediate copies. With this launch, Lambda has also increased the default limit for Lambda-managed code storage to 300GB.
Previously, Lambda provided a 75GB limit for code storage, requiring customers to submit support tickets when exceeding this quota. With this launch, Lambda now supports a 300GB per Region per account limit; however, many customers need beyond 300GB of code storage. Self-managed code storage allows customers to scale their code storage as needed. No additional Lambda charges apply. You only pay for standard S3 storage and, where applicable, cross-Region S3 data transfer rates.
Self-managed Amazon S3 buckets for code storage in all the Amazon Web Services Regions, including the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.
To configure self-managed storage, set the new S3ObjectStorageMode parameter to REFERENCE when creating or updating functions through the Amazon CLI, CloudFormation, SAM, or SDK. To learn more, visit the Amazon Lambda Developer Guide.
