Today, we are announcing the general availability of Amazon Neptune I/O-Optimized, a new configuration for Amazon Neptune Database that provides improved price performance and predictable pricing for customers with I/O-intensive applications. With Neptune I/O-Optimized, there are zero charges for read and write I/O operations—you only pay for your database instances and storage usage, making it easy to predict your database spend up front. Neptune I/O-Optimized offers up to 40% cost savings for I/O-intensive applications where I/O charges exceed 25% of the total Neptune database spend.

You can now choose between two configurations for Amazon Neptune Database: Neptune Standard or Neptune I/O-Optimized. For applications with low-to-moderate I/Os, Neptune Standard is a cost-effective option. For applications with high I/Os, Neptune I/O-Optimized provides improved price performance, predictable pricing, and up to 40% costs savings. You can switch your cluster with a command through the Amazon Command Line Interface. Neptune I/O-Optimized configuration is supported on from Neptune version 1.3.0.0 and provisioned instances. You can switch existing database clusters to Neptune I/O-Optimized once every 30 days and switch back to Neptune Standard at any time.

Neptune I/O-Optimized is supported for all available Neptune instance types and Neptune Serverless. Neptune I/O-Optimized is available in all Amazon Web Services Regions where Neptune is available, including the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.
