Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS), a messaging service that provides high-throughput, push-based, many-to-many messaging between distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven serverless applications, now supports active tracing with Amazon X-Ray. Customers can now view traces that flow through Amazon SNS topics to destination services, such as Amazon Simple Queue Service, Amazon Lambda, and Amazon Kinesis Data Firehose, in addition to traversing the application topology in Amazon CloudWatch ServiceLens. Customers can enable Amazon X-Ray active tracing using the Amazon SNS SetTopicAttributes API or the Amazon SNS Management Console.

With Amazon X-Ray active tracing enabled for Amazon SNS, customers can identify bottlenecks and monitor the health of event-driven applications by looking at segment details for Amazon SNS topics, such as resource metadata, faults, errors, and message delivery latency for each subscriber.

Active tracing with Amazon X-Ray for Amazon SNS is available in all Amazon Web Services Regions where Amazon X-Ray and Amazon SNS are available, including the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet, and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.  To learn more about enabling Amazon X-Ray active tracing for Amazon SNS, visit the Amazon SNS Developer Guide.
