Amazon Compute Optimizer now recommends licensing optimization opportunities for Microsoft SQL Server workloads on Amazon EC2. With this launch, you can receive automated SQL Server Edition downgrading recommendations in Amazon Compute Optimizer by enabling Amazon CloudWatch Application Insights to reduce SQL Server licensing cost.

Amazon EC2 is the proven, reliable, and secure option to run your SQL Server workloads in the cloud. Amazon Compute Optimizer automatically discovers your SQL Server instances on Amazon EC2 by inferred workload type and offers recommendations to downgrade from Enterprise Edition to Standard Edition to optimize license cost. To receive the licensing recommendation, you can select the SQL Server instances in Amazon Compute Optimizer and authenticate CloudWatch Application Insights with your read-only database credentials. Amazon Compute Optimizer will then analyze which SQL Server features are in use and recommend the edition downgrading where no Enterprise features are being used to reduce your license cost.

This feature is now available in Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet, and Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.
