Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-compatible edition now maintains read availability through writer node restarts in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet, and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD. With today’s launch, reader nodes will continue to serve read requests during a writer node restart, improving read availability in the cluster.

A planned writer node restart is commonly done to apply static parameter groups. Maintaining read availability through these restarts helps reduce the impact of making changes to writer configurations. In addition, availability is improved in the event of a failover, where reader nodes will remain available and reconnect to the newly promoted writer. Read the Aurora documentation to learn more.

Amazon Aurora is designed for unparalleled high performance and availability at global scale with full MySQL and PostgreSQL compatibility. It provides built-in security, continuous backups, serverless compute, up to 15 read replicas, automated multi-Region replication, and integrations with other Amazon Web Services services.
