Starting today, you can remove your Amazon Web Services account from launch permissions for an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) that was directly shared with your Amazon Web Services account. You can leverage this capability, for example, to reduce the likelihood of launching an EC2 instance with an unused or deprecated AMI that was shared with you earlier.
When you remove your Amazon Web Services account from the launch permissions of an AMI, it will no longer appear within any AMI list vended to your Amazon Web Services account. You can only opt out of AMIs that were shared directly with your Amazon Web Services account. You cannot opt out of AMIs that were shared with your Amazon Organization or Organizational Unit (OU), or remove access to public AMIs.
This capability is now available in all Amazon Web Services commercial regions, including Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia)Region, operated by NWCD. To learn more, please refer to the documentation here.
