Improved cold query performance is now available in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.

With this enhancement, Amazon Redshift can process queries up to 2x faster, if and when queries need to be compiled, compared to query processing times without the cold query performance enhancement. This enhancement gives you significantly better query performance when creating a new Redshift cluster, onboarding a new workload on an existing cluster, or when running a query after a software update to an existing cluster. Cold query performance improvements are available in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD  at no additional cost, and no additional actions are needed to enable it on your clusters. It is available to all customer clusters running any supported Redshift instance type (DS2, DC2 or RA3) in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.

With this enhancement, query compilations are scaled to a serverless compilation service beyond the compute resources of the leader node of your cluster. This uses an elastic cache that is shared by both Beijing and Ningxia regions only to store compiled objects to increase cache hits, when your mission-critical queries are submitted to Amazon Redshift.
