Amazon Kinesis Data Analytics for Apache Flink now supports UpdateApplicationMaintenanceConfiguration in preview. Amazon Kinesis Data Analytics periodically patches the underlying infrastructure of applications with OS and container-image security updates to meet compliance and security goals during the default maintenance windows in each region. You can use UpdateApplicationMaintenanceConfiguration via the CLI or the API to choose your preferred maintenance window start times for an application.

Maintenance for your application’s infrastructure might occur at any time during the maintenance window. However, the actual downtime experienced by your application will only be 10 to 30 seconds when the application status changes to “MAINTENANCE”. Amazon Kinesis Data Analytics for Apache Flink will automatically recover application state from the latest checkpoint or snapshot. To minimize downtime, ensure you are taking snapshots and frequent checkpoints regularly as recommended in the fault tolerance section under Best Practices.

Amazon Kinesis Data Analytics is an easy way to transform and analyze streaming data in real time with Apache Flink. Apache Flink is an open source framework and engine for processing data streams.
