Amazon Step Functions is now integrated with Amazon Athena, an interactive query service, allowing you to build workflows that queries data on your S3 data lake. Amazon Step Functions support built-in error handling, parameter passing, recommended security settings, and state management, reducing the amount of code you have to write and maintain.

Amazon Step Functions allows you to build resilient workflows using Amazon Web Services services such as Amazon Lambda, Amazon Glue, Amazon Simple Notification Service, and now with Amazon Athena. Amazon Athena is a serverless interactive query service that makes it easy to analyze data in Amazon S3 using standard SQL. You can use Athena integration to create a workflow that queries data in Amazon S3, gets the query results, and notifies relevant stakeholders. Or you can use the Athena integration to build a workflow that verifies the ETL job completion. You can read the Amazon Step Functions Developer Guide to learn how to use the Amazon Step Functions Athena service integration.

This feature is available in all regions where Amazon Step Functions is available, including Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD. View the Amazon Web Services China Regions table to learn more.
