Amazon EC2’s next generation general purpose M5, burstable general purpose T3 instances, and a new variant of the R5 memory optimized instances are now available in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) region, operated by Sinnet, and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) region, operated by NWCD. In addition, I3 instances are now available in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) region along with a price reduction of I3 instances in the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) region.

M5 and T3 instances offer Intel® Xeon Platinum processors (formerly codenamed Skylake) and the M5a and R5a instances offer the latest AMD EPYC processors. The new EC2 instance types feature the Amazon EC2 Nitro System, a combination of dedicated hardware and lightweight hypervisor that aims to deliver performance indistinguishable from bare-metal performance.

M5 instances provide a balance of compute, memory, storage, and network resources, and deliver up to a 47% improvement in price/performance compared to M4 instances. M5a offers customers the choice to run on AMD EPYC processors at a 10% lower price compared to M5. M5 and M5a instances are ideal for workloads such as web and application servers, backend servers for enterprise applications (e.g. Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, SAP Business Suite, MySQL, Microsoft SQL, PostgreSQL databases), gaming servers, caching fleets, as well as for application development environments.

T3 instances offer burstable CPU performance, and deliver up to a 30% improvement in price/performance over T2 instances. General purpose burstable instances are suitable for a broad spectrum of workloads such as micro-services, low-latency interactive applications, small and medium databases, virtual desktops, development, build and stage environments, code repositories, and business-critical applications. T3 instances start in Unlimited mode by default giving users sustained CPU performance over any desired time frame while keeping cost as low as possible.

R5a instances are priced at a 10% lower cost than R5 and are ideal for high performance databases, distributed web scale in-memory caches, mid-size in-memory databases, real time big data analytics, and other enterprise applications.

I3 instances are the next generation of Storage Optimized instances for high transaction, low latency workloads. I3 instances offer the best price per I/O performance for workloads such as NoSQL databases, in-memory databases, data warehousing, Elasticsearch, and analytics workloads.

M5, M5a, T3, R5a and I3 instances are supported across all EC2 pricing options including On-Demand, Reserved and Spot Instances, with up to a 90% discount from On-Demand prices.
