As a traditional manufacturing enterprise, Galanz has undergone many transformations on its development path. In the first transformation, Galanz transformed from a light textile manufacturing enterprise into a domestic household microwave oven production leader, with its output accounting for 90% of the domestic microwave oven output; The second transformation started with the production of air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines. Galanz opened the markets including other appliances beyond microwave ovens, and followed the global standards, with its products mainly for export, representing one of enterprises committed to "Made in China" in the international market; The third transformation is the adjustment of market and brand strategy from focusing on overseas market to vigorously expanding domestic market. The success of the three transformations has made Galanz Group one of the leading enterprises in the domestic home appliances industry. However, with the development of science and technology and the change of consumer demand, Galanz is also facing a series of new challenges in the following aspects: First, the production environment has changed. In the past, it used to rely mainly on manual production, but now it relies more and more on automated and mechanized production; Second, the communication mode between consumers and enterprises has changed. In the past, Galanz communicated with enterprises through distributors. Now, the consumers hope to directly feed back their opinions to enterprises to obtain better services; Third, the competitors have also changed, the original competitors have shifted from traditional home electronics manufacturing enterprises who now appear to be e-commerce platforms attributing to the development of e-commerce and its extension to manufacturing industry; Fourth, the organizational structures of enterprises have also updated, with the former based on manufacturing and assets while the latter on intelligent manufacturing and lean management. In order to deal with these challenges, Galanz decided to start the fourth transformation - digital transformation. "We hope to transform Galanz Group from a traditional manufacturing enterprise to a technology-oriented manufacturing enterprise through digital transformation, so as to provide customers with better products and consumer experience, ” said Alice Nuer, CIO of Galanz Group.

Why Amazon Web Services (AWS)?

Galanz has long established its own information system. Since the 1990s, Galanz has its products designed resorting to computers. In 2010, Galanz introduced an ERP system from SAP, becoming one of the earliest enterprises using ERP system in the home appliance industry in China. "However, this digital transformation is quite different from the previous ones, as Galanz needs innovation and breakthrough in terms of both concept and technology to achieve its goal. Therefore, we decided to prioritize the partners who can help us in these two aspects. After comparing several cloud service providers, we found that AWS fully compatible with our demands, especially its AWS innovative training service and AWS professional service are of great help to us, ” said Alice Nuer.

For traditional enterprises, cognitive problems of new demands, new modes, new processes and new structures are presented in the first place while with technical obstacles left behind. In order to solve these problems, AWS professional service team provided AWS innovation training service for Galanz team, and introduced the "working backwards" adopted by Amazon in realization of its own innovation, which focused on user experience, then applied to product planning and design, and carried out continuous exploration and iteration until a solution was found. "During the training process, the AWS professional service team adopted the coach training method to help our senior, middle and executive staff reach consensus on business, innovation, customer demand, system architecture and other aspects, which enabled us to have clear objectives and smooth communication in the digital transformation process, speeding up the implementation process of the project, ” said Alice Nuer.

In terms of architecture design, Galanz adopted the traditional architecture design for its previous information system and thus had no experience in cloud architecture design. Therefore, the AWS professional service team expertizing in rick professional technique were of great to Galanz. "In the early stage of the project, the AWS professional service team acted as an architect, leading our technical team to complete the architecture design. During the implementation of the project, we did not know much about some new technologies, and AWS arranged experts to provide help on site. At the beginning, the project was carried out mainly by AWS professional service team and supplemented by us. Gradually, our own technical team grows up and can be fully competent for the construction of the whole project, ” said Alice Nuer.

At the technical level, AWS Cloud not only provides rich cloud service functions, but also provides a large number of proven best practices to help customers quickly start and implement projects. For example, AWS has accumulated a lot of best practices for deploying serverless applications, which details how to design, deploy and build serverless application workload on AWS Cloud, including RESTful microservices, mobile backend, stream processing, web applications and other scenarios. In the best practice related to IOT application, AWS introduces how to design, deploy and build IOT workload on AWS cloud, covering scenarios such as device pre-configuration, device telemetry, device command and firmware update. Following these guidelines and best practices, the AWS professional service team help customers with architecture design and at the same time leads and guides customers to implement their development with agile development methods, which makes customers less detours and greatly improves the development efficiency of customers.


At present, Galanz has completed the development and deployment of e-commerce platform and IoT platform with AWS Cloud. On the e-commerce platform, Galanz adopts the micro service architecture, using Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) as the container hosting platform, with Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) and Amazon ElastiCache as the database and cache hosting. On the IoT platform, Galanz uses AWS IoT Core, Amazon API Gateway and AWS Lambda services to build the IoT background without server architecture, and uses AWS IoT SDK to realize the rapid development of IoT cloud and device applications. AWS Cloud services used by Galanz mainly include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon ECS、Amazon RDS, ElastiCache, AWS IoT Core, AWS IoT SDK, API Gateway, Lambda and AWS professional services. The adoption AWS Cloud services has accelerated the digital transformation of Galanz. First, the introduction of managed services and serverless architecture has greatly accelerated the speed of system development, taking only two months from the start of the project to the official launch of the first phase of the system and it was put into practical application quickly. In this year's "6.18" activity, from June 1 to 18, Galanz achieved more than RMB 90 million of sales revenue through the new e-commerce platform, and the system has only been completed for 4 months. "This achievement also benefits from the IEM service provided by the AWS Support team, which provided timely architecture and operation guidance for our" 6.18 " activity and ensured the safe and reliable operation of the whole system,” said Alice Nuer.

Second, the rich functionality and excellent scalability of AWS enable Galanz to extend the whole system forward and backward as required by the business development, covering all aspects from manufacturing, supply chain, products, sales to customer service, without worrying about the IT architecture itself, focusing on solving the problems at the business level and realizing innovation in all aspects. Third, Galanz has users in more than 200 countries and regions. With the global coverage of AWS cloud platform, Galanz can easily provide better products and services for users around the world.
