Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports additional storage volumes for cross-Region replicas
Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports additional storage volumes for cross-Region replicas with Oracle Data Guard. Customers can provision up to 256 TiB storage by adding up to three additional storage volumes of 64 TiB each to their cross-Region replica database instances. Additional storage volumes can be added, scaled up, or removed from the database instance without application downtime, providing the flexibility to add and adjust storage volumes over time based on evolving workload demands.
This launch enables customers to maintain disaster recovery configurations without storage limitations. Organizations running mission-critical workloads requiring low recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO) can now replicate the data across Regions with cross-Region replicas while achieving higher storage scalability and flexibility with additional storage volumes. RDS for Oracle offers fully managed experience for setting up both in-Region and cross-Region replicas with Oracle Data Guard, switchover-based role transition from a primary database to a standby database, and promotion of a replica to a primary database.
You will need an Oracle Database Enterprise Edition (EE) license to use replicas in mounted mode, and an additional Oracle Active Data Guard license to use replicas in read-only mode. We recommend consulting your legal team or licensing expert to verify your Oracle license coverage for your specific use case. Additional storage volumes support for cross-Region replicas is now available in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.
