Now, Amazon Identity and Access Management (IAM) allows IAM users to have longer access to their Amazon Web Services resources when they Switch Roles in the Amazon Web Services Management Console.

IAM users can use the Amazon Web Services console to temporarily gain permissions assigned to an IAM role by using Switch Role. The IAM role can be in the IAM user’s Amazon Web Services account or a different Amazon Web Services account. The Amazon Web Services administrator who owns the IAM role, can now configure a longer session duration for when the IAM user switches to the IAM role. This capability allows the IAM user to complete longer running tasks within a single console session and saves the IAM user the effort of refreshing their switch role session.

The longer session duration feature is available in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) region, operated by Sinnet and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) region, operated by NWCD.
