I cannot stress enough the importance of getting hands-on with the topics as much as possible. I would encourage any architect or engineer with an interest in this area to pursue this certification. 2. Leverage free trainings built by the experts at Amazon Web Services

Amazon Web Services Training and Certification provides free training resources. Amazon Web Services Skill Builder offers on-demand digital training resources to help you prepare for the exam. I recommend the SAP on Amazon Web Services (Technical) digital training (a free course) to learn fundamentals and key architectural patterns for running SAP on Amazon Web Services. You’ll learn how to size SAP on Amazon Web Services to meet performance targets, perform basic system operations for SAP on Amazon Web Services including backups, monitoring, and automated deployments, and make architectural decisions based on Amazon Web Services-recommended best practices. 3. Know your Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) provides a wide selection of instance types optimized to fit different use cases. The varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking capacity provide flexibility in selection of resources for your applications. Each instance type includes one or more instance sizes, enabling you to scale your resources according to the requirements of your workload.

Make sure you know the certified and recommended EC2 instance types for different SAP workloads. 4. Familiarize yourself with SAP migration

A lot of customers are moving to the Amazon Web Services cloud to host their SAP workloads. Hence the knowledge around migration tools and methodologies becomes very important in the context of this exam. I recommend familiarizing yourself with these migration tools – including online and offline migration options. There are several companies who start their cloud journey by creating a Disaster Recovery footprint on Amazon Web Services. For architectural guidance on scalability and reliability of SAP on Amazon Web Services, I highly suggest reading this documentation and familiarizing yourself with architecture patterns for SAP HANA on Amazon Web Services .

Next, ensure that you read about the Amazon Web Services Data Provider for SAP , a tool that collects performance-related data from Amazon Web Services services. It makes this data available to SAP applications to help monitor and improve the performance of business transactions. Review the versions, scope of the provider, and troubleshooting common errors.

6. Familiarize yourself with Networking concepts – Master your Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)

As mentioned in the exam guide, one of the key components of the certification is having a sound understanding of networking concepts. Get an end-to-end understanding of the SAP on Amazon Web Services High Availability with Overlay IP Address Routing . If you are not familiar with the concepts of Amazon Web Services Elastic Load Balancer and Amazon Web Services Transit Gateway, I would recommend reading about these resources first.

As I mentioned earlier, there is no substitute to experience and hands-on experience. Please be aware of that running the labs will provision Amazon Web Services resources, which in turn, will add to your Amazon Web Services bill. Do not forget to delete the resources after running the workshops.

10. Troubleshooting holds the key

The Amazon Web Services documentation is very detailed and elaborate for troubleshooting common errors and scenarios. When you read the Amazon Web Services SAP documentations, focus on the troubleshooting sections like troubleshooting Amazon Web Services Data Provider for SAP and troubleshooting issues with Amazon Web Services backint agent .

Lastly, do remember to practice and read as much as you can. I have also found the SAP Notes very helpful. SAP Notes give you instructions on how to remove known errors from SAP systems. They include a description of the symptoms, the cause of the error, and the SAP Release and Support Package level in which the error occurs.
